Canterbury & Margate - Dreamland with Russell & Brigitte
Canterbury & Margate - Dreamland
The seaside town of Margate brought a burst of colour and nostalgia, with a full day spent at Dreamland enjoying classic fairground rides and arcades,
We hopped between attractions — the Chair-o-plane, Hurricane Jets, Ghost Train, Carousel, Waltzers, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and the always-popular Dodgems, where friendly competitiveness took over. Afternoon activities included more rides, a splash-filled Wild River log flume, creamy ice creams, and a final sweeping view from the Big Wheel,

Between rides, the scent of candyfloss, popcorn, and freshly fried treats added to the sensory delight. The Hall of Mirrors had us in stiches as we looked at all the different shapes and sizes of our reflections.
In Canterbury, the cathedral’s soaring spires, jewel-coloured stained glass, peaceful cloisters, and grand Chapter House offered moments of quiet awe
Cultural exploration was a highlight of the trip. Our visit to Dover Castle immersed us in nearly a thousand years of history, from medieval halls and narrow spiral staircases to the dramatic views of the English Channel. The underground wartime hospital and First World War command post made history feel immediate, as the group experimented with Morse code and cheered at the sight of a P&O ferry gliding across the water.

Adventure came to the fore on outings to the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway. he charm of the miniature steam railway, with its coal-fired engine and rhythmic hiss of steam, transported the group back in time.
A memorable day was at Port Lympne Safari Park. Here we encountered giraffes, rhinos, lions, Amur tigers, and other exotic species brought excitement and wonder, while special moments like Sophie and Natasha taking the driver’s seat on the safari truck created lasting memories.
We saw the site of Thomas Becket’s martyrdom, one of the cathedral’s most famous and moving features, as well as the beautiful Trinity Chapel and Corona, which draw visitors from all over the world. Walking through the cathedral and its grounds, you’re surrounded by nearly 1,400 years of history,
A serene boat trip along the River Stour allowed the group to admire historic bridges, Greyfriars Island, and charming riverside architecture.

The week concluded with the thrill of Diggerland, where diggers, dumpers, and construction machinery provided laughter, challenges, and moments of pride. From Dumper Trucks to Mini Tractors, the group embraced their inner child, competing, cheering, and discovering hidden talents.
