Warners Leisure Resort with Adrian, Derek & Wendy

We all met up for a pub lunch in Ely before travelling to Suffolk to stay in spacious and comfortable accommodation at Warner’s Gunton Hall coastal resort. The Hall is set in beautiful grounds with a picturesque lake and landscaped gardens.

It was Turkey and Tinsel week so everyone was in the party mood and there were plenty of daytime activities to be enjoyed. Some of us learnt to dance the Merengue and others joined the Christmas Choir which later performed on stage as part of the evening entertainment! There were many fun Quizzes and with our combined knowledge we won the Christmas Musical Quiz!

Some of us went swimming in the lovely pool and others tried their hand at crossbow firing. There was a well equipped Games Room where we played table tennis, darts, table football and pool. We had a trip out to Great Yarmouth to visit the market and do some souvenir shopping as well as sampling the local chips! We then headed for the pier for a game of 10 pin bowling.

Each evening after a fine 3 course dinner we were treated to fantastic entertainment. It started with a Christmas Show and on other evenings we saw a Night at the Musicals, a terrific Comedian and a Blues Brothers Tribute. We were usually the first on the dance floor and the last to leave it.

Everyone was full of festive spirit by the last afternoon when it was Panto time and we all had great fun watching and cheering along to “Jack and the Beanstalk”. The party atmosphere continued into the evening with much dancing and singing and for the countdown to New Year we were all on the dance floor waving our union jacks in celebration.

Potters Leisure Resort with Colin & Mel

What a fantastic week we had at Potters Luxury Leisure resort. With its beautifully spacious rooms and all-round relaxed atmosphere, we all felt extremely comfortable and well looked after.

The food really was exceptional and we built up quite a rapport with our very smiley waitress, Trish. Nothing was too much trouble, and she made sure we had everything we wanted.

After dinner we would always make our way into the Atlas Theatre, where we were always treated to amazing entertainment. The performers were professional and enthusiastic and always wore a smile. We made sure we put our stamp on the dance floor each night too – we enjoyed ballroom, disco and line dancing!

There is much going on around the resort every day, so we were always busy participating in fantastic activities. We did archery (and walked away as gold medallists!), darts, swimming, air rifle shooting, and even tried our hands at curling! Go team JollyDays! Everyone really took the competitive spirit of the game into their stride, and we ended up having lots of laughs with the other residents! The staff were wonderful too – always making sure we understood what to do during each activity. They always cracked jokes with us and generally made us laugh.

We took part in a few quizzes throughout the week, which were usually held in the relaxing Terrace Bar – unfortunately we didn’t come first in any, but it didn’t matter as we had fun guessing the answers! We were all extremely enthusiastic about Bingo, and played it several times over the course of the holiday. Unluckily, we didn’t win once, but there were certainly a few close-calls!

Towards the end of the week we took a leisurely trip into Great Yarmouth for a spot of shopping, and enjoyed the magic of a little fresh sea-air. Potters is a wonderful place for all-round entertainment, 5* luxury food and accommodation. We are already eagerly awaiting our next visit!

Center Parcs with Derek & Wendy

It is a beautiful time of year to be accommodated within the forestry area of Nottingham with the varying shades of autumn colours! The first evening after dinner we went bowling. Emma was on top form and easily beat the rest of us! It was so lovely walking through the village at night time with many splendid lights strung up in the trees and also animal shapes decked with lights.

On our first morning we explored the park. We found where Father Christmas lived in his grotto and saw his reindeer and we stroked the ponies and horses that pulled the carts around the forestry area. Some of our group went in to see Father Christmas and had a good chat with him. They came away with a special present!

We made the most of the many activities on offer at the resort. We played pool, tennis, badminton, table tennis, crazy golf and the brave among us even went roller skating. We went swimming and had great fun in the pool, the flumes and the rapids. We also went bowling and had a go at archery, where Jon did really well with a little instruction.

In the evenings we went to the disco and danced the night away. Jonathon showed us his skills with some ‘break dancing’! One evening we were treated to a spectacular fireworks display, which we all enjoyed.

On our last day we went to Sherwood Forest and saw Robin Hoods “Major Oak” where he is believed to have hid from the Sherriff of Nottingham. It was then off to lunch at a local pub before saying our farewells and heading for home.
