Attractions of Blackpool
We managed to step onto the famous Ballroom floor and watched some of the dancers glide gracefully around the room.
It was time to get up close and personal with all of our favourite celebs at Madame Tussauds. We couldn't believe how much they lifelike they were!
Next up was some of our sporting heroes.
Our next stop was the Blackpool Dungeons!
From the moment we entered we were greeted by the "Black Jester” and we
could tell this place was not for the faint hearted. The characters and
scenarios played out by the excellent actors were a reflection of Britain's
brutal and often savage history. The final room had us all terrified as we
were lifted high into the air before a heart stopping free-fall; the screams
were genuine!
We were all excited about seeing the exotic animals at Blackpool Zoo. From the giant Sulcate Tortoise at the start to the
Bactrian Camels toward the end and all in between, the animals there had us all
fascinated. It was good to learn how the zoo helps with the conservation
of species in the wild and one of their elephants had been rescued from a
Burmese logging camp. We
were then treated to the Gorillas being released onto their island to hunt down
the veggie treats that their keepers had hidden in the many nooks and crannies
of their habitat.
A brilliant time was spent at the Sea Life Centre. The underwater
world has over 2,500 creatures including zebra sharks, stingrays and turtles
and has over 50 amazing displays. We listened to a really interesting talk
about shark conservation and the dangers they face before meeting Phoenix, the
giant turtle who despite her size, is only 23 years old. We also saw a
strange looking creature and was told that this was a shovel-nosed guitar fish which
is a cross between a shark and a ray. The group were thrilled to be able
to walk through the glass tunnel and observe the wonderful sea life swimming up
above our heads.
