Thorpe Park & Chessington with Leo & Netty

 Thorpe Park & Chessington

Our holiday began with our first day of thrill seeking at Thorpe Park. The only thing on our agenda was to have lots of fun! We arrived just as the gates opened and after studying the map, we had our plan of action.

We started off on the more gentle rides and loved spinning around on the cup and saucer ride.

Then, we upped the anti as this bunch of dare devils took their seats on Stealth which is the UK's fastest roller coaster which launched us to 205ft at 80mph in just 2.5 seconds! Wow- what a ride! We twisted and turned on SAW, feeling very dizzy when we got off.

We got wet and wild as we plunged down the super-soaking 85ft drop on Tidal Wave and played splash roulette on the Island’s ferocious Rumba Rapids. We laughed our (wet) socks off when we saw everyone’s incredibly wet clothes!

We were also lucky winners on the funfair games.

It was a day of being London  tourists. The sun was shining and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. We parked in Greenwich, right next to the Naval College where our day began. We started our tour at the Chapel in Queen Mary Court and then onto the Painted Hall in the King William Court. Excitedly it was then our turn to board a Thames clipper which took us down to Westminster giving us the best sights of some historic buildings that London has to offer.

Arriving in Westminster we marvelled at the newly renovated Big Ben and then onto Horse Guards Parade. The soldiers looked so smart, sitting proudly on their perfectly groomed horses. Our next tourist attraction was to the famous Trafalgar Square where we posed next to the four mighty lion statues that surround Nelsons Column.

Lunch was enjoyed in the bustling Leicester Square before heading towards Buckingham Palace to visit the Queen. The sun was still out in all its glory, so we took an ice cream break in St James’s Park. We sat and watched the world go by, enjoying soaking up the atmosphere of London life.

Day 2 of adventure and adrenaline pumping fun was had as we made our way to Chessington. The sun was shining, and we headed straight to get our fast-track passes before planning what rides we wanted to do first. With over 40 rides, there was something for everyone.

It wasn’t long before we were plunged 25m into the jaws of a crocodile, Sobek, the ancient Egyptian Crocodile God and protector of the Nile. The Blue Barnacle took us on a nautical adventure sailing through the skies in Pirates’ Cove. We stopped for a light lunch, keen to try out as many rides as possible! Like a bat out of hell, we soared through the sky on the old school ride-Vampire. Our legs dangled below as we soared over the treetops looking at the people below.

We were off to Chessington for our last day of fun! We arrived and headed straight Zufari a thrilling off road journey.

Everyone loved comparing how they sized up to the hug Gorilla's

We came face to face with wonderful African animals such as White Rhino, Giraffe and Zebra. There are over 1000 incredible animals including lions, tigers, gorillas, monkeys, penguins and underwater creatures in the SEA LIFE centre.

We were able to have a hands on experience in the rock pool area, stroking the star fish. We couldn’t believe how much their skin felt like sandpaper. There were stingray, seahorses and clownfish that swam up to the glass, their brightly coloured patterns dazzled us. The fearless group walked through the underwater tunnel as gigantic sharks swam above. It was an incredible experience.

The day ended with a few of our favourite rides, enjoying one last adrenaline rush. We had crammed so much into our day, not wanting to miss a thing!

A morning was spent at Lee Valley Farm getting to know some  furry friends. From trotters to snouts the farmyard is home to many of the usual suspects you might expect to find on a farm. However, unlike other farms we got to see them up close and even feed them a treat or two, or maybe even three! We met some exotic ‘friends’ down at Critter Corner, unearthing fascinating facts about where they come from.

There were even more fantastic facts from the dedicated falconry team, Coda Falconry, giving us all the ins and outs of what it’s like working with such remarkable animals.

We had a special surprise for the group one evening….we had organised a training session with Hertford rugby club. With our active wear on we were good to go! After some stretching and a few warm up drills we were soon looking like pro’s and managed a mini 5 a-side game. Everyone had a brilliant time and had certainly worked up a sweat! We rewarded ourselves with a drink in the bar-post match with the rest of the team.
