Monkey World; Ape Rescue Centre - Dorset with Debbie & Carl

Monkey World; Ape Rescue Centre - Dorset

Monkey World was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the whole holiday. The excitement began when we discovered our adopted chimpanzees – Chocolate, Shamus, Gordon, Thelma, Pepper, Lucky and Kiwi.

Keeper talks gave us a fascinating insight into the lives of the rescued primates, and seeing our adopted chimps in person made the experience incredibly meaningful. Gordon proudly posing and Thelma relaxing under her blanket were particular favourites. We returned later in the week and were delighted to find Chocolate, Kiwi and Pepper, watching the mischievous chimps playing, chasing and wrestling. The visit was made even more fun by the gift shop, plenty of photos and, of course, our own “Monkey Business” team spirit.

Another great day out was our steam train journey from Swanage to Corfe Castle. Travelling on the beautifully preserved Bulleid Pacific No. 34072 “257 Squadron”, meeting the entertaining station staff and watching the engine change direction made the journey particularly special.

There was plenty of entertainment away from the animals too. Bowling brought out everyone's competitive side, with Keith taking the overall championship, while our quiz night at the lodges provided plenty of laughter.

Our trip to Brownsea Island was another wonderful day. The ferry journey, beautiful scenery and peaceful walks through the island's wildlife-rich landscape gave us the chance to see nature at its best. Learning about the island's birds and wildlife made the experience even more interesting, followed by a well-earned ice cream before heading home.

A great day was spent at SEA LIFE Weymouth, where we enjoyed seeing sharks, stingrays, penguins, seals and a giant Galápagos tortoise. The playful seal feeding was a particular highlight. We then headed to Chesil Beach and Portland Bill, where some brave members of the group climbed the 153 steps of the lighthouse to enjoy spectacular panoramic views.

Finally, our last morning at Rockley Park Beach provided a simple but perfect ending. We enjoyed the sunshine, sea air and views across the water before meeting two friendly dogs, Rupert and Cookie, who added one last bit of fun to the holiday.
