Bruges - Christmas Market
We were ready to explore
Bruges festive charm. Our hotel was situated in the perfect spot making it easy for us to explore.
Passing
by the towering Belfort (Belfry) Tower, we marvelled at this iconic medieval
structure. Its 47 bells played a symphony that echoed through the streets,
adding to the magic of the moment. Our journey led us to the Main Square (Grote
Markt), which during December transforms into a winter wonderland. The square
was alive with the festive spirit, twinkling lights, and bustling market stalls
offering seasonal treats and unique gifts.
We were in chocolate heaven as we reached Choco-Story, Brugge's renowned
chocolate museum and factory. Here, we learned about the fascinating journey of
chocolate, from humble cacao beans to the sweet treats we know and love. The
exhibits showcased the history of chocolate, the ingredients that make up
various types, and even the surprising health benefits (in moderation, of
course!). Watching chocolatiers at work was mesmerizing, and before leaving, we
couldn't resist picking up even more chocolate delights.
Horse-drawn
carriages clip-clopped past, adding to the timeless charm of the scene and we
couldn’t resist a ride through the city. The ride
offered views of Brugge’s historic architecture, charming bridges, and
picturesque canals. We felt like we had stepped back in time, soaking in the
sights and sounds of this enchanting city.
As
darkness fell, we returned to the main square, now illuminated with dazzling
Christmas lights. The bustling Christmas market was alive with festive cheer,
and we enjoyed browsing the stalls, taking photos, and soaking in the magical
atmosphere.
A serene visit to Sint-Salvatorskathedraal, the oldest parish
church in Bruges was a must. Inside, we lit candles, said a prayer, and admired the
beautiful nativity scene—a heart warming reminder of the Christmas season. The
organ filled the cathedral with an air of grandeur, leaving us in awe of its
beauty and sound.
Everyone voted for a trip on the canal boat trip. Cruising along the gave us a unique
perspective of Brugge's UNESCO-protected landmarks. We admired 17th-century
wooden buildings, historic churches, the old hospital, and even spotted some
local wildlife.
