Winter Sun in the Canaries (Lanzarote) with Midi, Marguerite & Rachel

Winter Sun in the Canaries (Lanzarote)

We had arrived in sunny Lanzarote and as soon as we had unpacked our bags we couldn't wait to make a splash in the outdoor swimming pool and relax in the warm sunshine.

Our hotel was situated right on the beach front, giving us the most spectacular views along the sandy coastline.

One morning we made our way to Playa da Carmen harbour and climbed aboard The Jet Biosphere. Everyone enjoyed the thrill of this boat as we sped out to sea and travelled along the coastline, listening to our captain pointing out the sights. We were hopeful to spot some dolphins on our journey, but they had other ideas today. The captain then ‘put his foot down’ and we twisted and turned, bouncing on top of the waves. It was exhilarating.

The hotel and so many brilliant activities for us to participate in. We competed against each other in an archery and shooting tournament. We became pro's in the line dancing class, mastering the moves after a few wrong turns and potted some excellent shots on the pool table.

We even received certificated and medals for our great efforts.

Our evening's started with a cocktail or two as we relaxed in the the entertainment lounge, ready for the live shows.

We were  treated to some amazing performances every night from live music, to circus tricks to mind blowing magic. We would always be up on the dance floor showing off our disco moves late into the night.

We even took to the microphone for a karaoke sing-a-long. We received a huge round of applause from the other hotel guests.

An amazing day was had as we boarded the coach to start our trip to the Timanfaya National Park and the Lava Fields that were formed during the 18th and 19th century volcanic eruptions. On route we visited El Golfa, also known as the Green Lagoon. This lake is formed in the crater of an old volcano and owes its colour to a type of algae that grows there. It was an amazing sight to see. In the centre of the Fire Mountains, we learnt about geothermal energy as the hot volcanic hole had water poured into it and within seconds a huge powerful jet of steam blew out! Next, we watched a man scratch away some gravel in a pit and put a bundle of straw in it and within seconds, it was on fire showing us exactly how hot the ground is.

We then boarded the coach and drove amongst the unusual and amazing landscape admiring the spectacular views which had been created by the lava. We visited the Vineyards of La Geria where we sampled some wine which we all enjoyed very much.

The sun was shining and we were all looking forward to a dip in the sea! Although the sea was a little chilly, we all braved it and had great fun swimming and messing around together.

It was then time to join in with beach boules, trying to hit the jack and we also made up one of our own games to see who could fill up a bucket with sand first. Although it may seem simple, it was hard work, and we were all quietly competitive. Nick was crowned champion and like all good sports we congratulated him on his win.

Once again, we received another certificate to congratulate us on our achievements.

One evening we ventured out of the hotel and we stumbled across an amazing American bar, The Four Seasons. There was live music, and we soon were toe tapping and singing along to some great music from Country to current artists like Adele.

Another pool day, practising our swimming and topping up our tan! A perfect day.

We love celebrating a birthday on one of our holidays and this time we had not one, but two! At the bar we had a special surprise waiting for Emma and John. We couldn’t let that occasion pass without celebrating. They were both presented with a delicious cake and the whole room sang Happy Birthday to them as they blew their candles out.
