Oxford- The Harry Potter Tour with Netty & Leo

Oxford-The Harry Potter Tour

An excited group of Harry Potter fans went off in search of the famous Warner Brothers Studio for our tour. As we arrived, we were greeted by a huge model of Norbert the dragon who looked ready to BBQ us by breathing fire on usWe then began the tour by watching a film which included some of the original cast and about how the films were made.  We explored the Great Hall, the Gryffindor Common Room and the boy’s bedroom. It was just like being in the film.

It was time to check out some fantastic beasts and we knew just where to find them! We heard lots of roaring and eerie noises coming from the Forbidden Forest so we plucked up the courage to enter, daring to see what strange creatures dwelled within!

Luckily, we made it out alive and headed onto Platform 9 & ¾ where the magnificent Hogwarts Express was waiting for us to board!

We then headed outside for a trip on the night bus, and a look around the Dursley’s house in Privet drive. It was then off for a walk down Diagon Alley with its cobble stone paths to check out all of the magical shops where Harry and his friends bought all their wizardly wares.

A lovely day was spent in Oxford, exploring its architecture and the magnificent gothic buildings. Our first stop was at The Natural History Museum, home to the huge T-Rex skeleton that welcomed us in the foyer. The morning was spent exploring the vast display cases full to the brim with artefacts and information.

We then met our tour guide Lucy, who was extremely knowledgeable and an encyclopaedia of information about all 39 Colleges. It was then time to head to the Divinity School, this medieval building which was built between 1427 and 1483 and was the first location we would see today which was featured in the Harry Potters movies as it doubled as the Hogwarts infirmary.

The last stop on our tour was at Oxford’s Cathedral, which has its own world-famous choir. We walked around listening through headphones to a talking commentary about this famous building. The stain glass windows were so intricate and colourful, we could have spent ages looking at all the finer details of this building.

We loved having our pictures taken with the Ronnie Barker and David Bowie statues, who had both lived in the town. After a stroll through the cobblestone streets, we all bought some last minute souvenirs to take home. The main purchase was a colourful Oxford university hoodie, which everyone was keen to model!
