Wales - Castles, Coast & Steam Trains with Pat & Jim

Wales -  Castles, Coast & Steam Trains

We could hardly wait to get to Wales for our fantastic holiday! Arriving at our very comfortable accommodation we settled in right away.

We visited the magnificent Newton House, it was built in 1660, and significantly changed in the 18th and 19th centuries. The house is decorated the way it looked back in 1912. We all had fun getting dressed up as maids, soldiers and country gents with top hats.

We travelled back in time on the Gwili to Dan-y-Coed steam railway. We got aboard “The Welsh Guardsman”, sat back and relaxed. We enjoyed looking at the stunning coast and countryside. We completed our day with a trip to Port Barry where we watched the boats bobbing in the harbour, white horses rolling in from the sea and oyster catchers flying high in the sky.

We got into the Jolly minibus and headed to the pretty harbour village of Solva. We walked by the sea front where we spotted a few windsurfers on the water doing tricks. From there we drove to St David's, a unique city surrounded by some of the finest coastline in Europe. We had a leisurely walk around the town and wandered into a variety of gift shops where some of us bought presents to take home.

We all loved visiting the magnificent Kidwelly Castle with its fascinating history. On top of the tower we could see stunning views of the River Gwendraeth and the pretty town of Kidwelly.
