Having
met up, we drove to Brockenhurst to have lunch at a country pub before getting
aboard the ferry. Once we were on the
island, we had just a few minutes before we arrived at our lovely accommodation
at Norton Grange!
We
checked in, unpacked and got ready for our first dinner in the restaurant and
then it was show time in the main ballroom. As always, the shows are
spectacular and with the resident band playing too we enjoyed a good night.
The
following day we drove to Osborne House and its wonderful grounds and garden.
The house itself has fantastic paintings and furniture and we were steeped in
history. We picnicked in the gardens and walked down to the beach area where
Queen Victoria would have bathed. We went into the Swiss Cottage and saw where
the royal children would have played. Some
gifts were bought at the shop there. Back at our hotel we refreshed for dinner
and another night of music and dancing. We danced until late, as always!
Steam
trains were the order of our next day. Everyone loves the steam and the
whistling. After our train journey we set off to the coastal town of Ryde and
had a fish and chip lunch. Ten pin bowling was next on the agenda and we all
tried very hard to beat Colin. It was great fun. Back at our hotel we changed
for another delicious dinner and enjoyed more great entertainment. The
entertainment team are very good. More dancing followed.
The
next day, after breakfast, we went to the “Needles” where we filled multi
coloured sand into shapes and also went into the glass blowing demonstration.
We had a great time and even managed to buy some more gifts. We then drove off
to see the donkey’s at their sanctuary. Everybody loves them. Afterwards we
drove on to “Waltzing Waters” for the magical light, water and music show. In
the evening, after dinner, we had another lovely time being entertained and we
also participated with some karaoke until late.
Our
last day, we packed up and set sail for home. On our way we went through the
New Forest and saw the ponies in the beautiful scenery that surrounded us.
Lunch was taken at a nice country pub and then we continued our journey.
It
was a great holiday and we would like to thank everybody help make it fun.
