Malta with Derek, Pat & Laura

We arrived to glorious weather that stayed with us all of the week. It ranged between the low to mid 20’s throughout! Our 4* hotel was nicely positioned in the bay of St George with beautiful views across the sea. The hotel staff were very friendly and helped make our stay very comfortable. The food was first class with lots of choice, so there was no chance of going hungry!

Lovely swimming pools were all around us and we made good use of them and the sun beds for those who were happier out of the water. Evenings were spent at our local bars around the St George bay area and we even managed some dancing. One night we watched a salsa dancing exhibition which was being held at our hotel.

Days out included a trip to the fishing village of Marsaxlokk. We walked along the prom and looked around the market stalls that were selling local wares and that was a good opportunity to buy a few gifts. We had a splendid fresh fish lunch that day sitting out in the sun on the quay side! We took an open top bus ride around the north of the island and stopped off to tour the old capital of Mdina, a walled city. It was really lovely, especially as it was virtually traffic free.

Naturally we went to the existing capital of Valletta and explored the many sights that were on offer, including going into the cathedral. We walked to the gardens high up in Valletta with stunning views overlooking the three towns below. As with Mdina there were horse and carriages touring the city. We had possibly the best ice cream on the island and sat in the main square enjoying it.

One of our days we went on a boat trip around the harbours and saw great architecture, along with some wonderful vessels that you can only dream about owning, as well as some gigantic rigs! It was a lovely cruise.

We had nice cafe style lunches and drink stops along the way throughout our holiday and simply relaxed with nice walks, just being typical tourists!
