Twixmas- Norton Grange
Then, we made our way down to breakfast with our festive jumpers on and were greeted with a glass of Bucks Fizz or orange juice. Father Christmas came to chat some more and we thanked him for all of our presents.
We found our creative side as we headed to the Ballroom for some pottery painting. We chose our ornaments to paint; stars and Christmas trees seemed to be the favourite!
We concentrated and let our imagination run freely with bright colours and fun patterns. Everyone was proud of their final masterpieces.
Our tummies started to rumble so we made our way to the dining room for our Christmas lunch. We kicked off the celebrations, showering each other with party poppers, streamers and balloons. The table had been decorated with silly hats, glasses and crackers that we couldn’t wait to pull! We had a delicious meal with all the trimmings making sure we had enough room for pudding!
After a memorable day, we then headed to the dance floor for an evening of fun. We watched the ‘Christmas Concert’, hosted by the entertainment team. We all sang and clapped our way through this great festive show. It was then our turn to dance away to some great party songs, until our feet could dance no more.
A lovely morning was spent watching the impressive Falconry Display. We were introduced to Ollie the barn owl, Spike the larger owl, a peregrine- falcon known to be the fastest bird in the world and a harris hawk. The handler told us some information on each of the birds and demonstrated them flying and catching their prey.
It was our turn to show off our talent in the pop choir group. We did our warm up vocals, before practising the iconic song New York, New York. What a fantastic performance we gave and on the third go, Colin was asked to stand at the front and help conduct the choir. He was absolutely fabulous and received a round of applause at the end for his great effort.
It was then time to put our line dancing skills to the test and impress Country Joe. We certainly put on a great show as we do-si-do’d around our partners.
There was much excitement for the afternoon pantomime performance of Little Red Riding Hood. Armed with snacks and drinks we took our seats ready for a show full of laughter, with the usual jokes and silly antics from the pantomime dame! It was a great performance and we loved joining in with the booing and hissing.
Our Boxing Day evening started with a complimentary glass of bubbly whilst we stood on the decking overlooking the seafront where we watched the amazing firework display. There was lots of 'ooooh' and 'ahhhss' as they lit up the night sky.
We could feel the excitement in the room grow as Edison Lighthouse came onto the stage. This band was very famous in the 70’s with their single- Love Grows which reached no 1 in the UK selling over 4.5 million copies worldwide. We danced through the whole performance with many songs we were able to sing along to.
It was game on as we made our way to Ryde bowling alley. We split into two teams and picked our lucky bowling balls. There were some fantastic shots and a few strikes along the way with Beverley being crowned the overall winner with an amazing score of 106. Congratulations to her and to the rest of the group for such a great game.
One of our favourite shows was a Freddie Mercury tribute band who sang all of the greatest hits by Queen. Sarah is a huge fan and was absolutely delighted when the lead singer joined her on the dance floor for a quick dance and kissed her hand thanking her for her fabulous dancing. She was thrilled to say the least and smiled for the rest of the evening. It really did make her night.
We went to a magical, winter wonderland called Busy Bees. This huge, impressive, award winning garden centre in Ryde spread over two floors and has its very own Christmas world filled with every different type of decoration, lights and displays you can imagine. Everyone managed to buy some sweets and gifts to take home to remind us of our visit.
Our active group joined in with the indoor curling competition. Everyone split into two teams red vs blue and each took turns. We played some fantastic shots with Sarah and Beverley both kicking their opponents off the score sheet. It was a very close game with the red team just taking the lead. After the nail biting match we relaxed in the swimming pool and took a soak in the warm, bubbly jacuzzi.
Dressed in our finest party clothes, we were ready for our New Year celebrations. This started with a glass of sparkling wine and fireworks on the decking overlooking the sea. Our tables were set with crackers, silly hats, balloons and party poppers. We were treated to a wonderfully delicious five course meal.
The entertainment team put on a show stopping dance routine filled with some of our favourite songs, which really got us in the party mood.
Before we knew it the bagpiper had arrived and made his way round the hall with the formal ceremony to address the haggis.
