Christmas Pantomime with Midi & Barbara

 Christmas Pantomime

With great excitement we made our way to The Theatre Royal, for the highlight of our week……. the Christmas panto, Cinderella. We took our seats, armed with sweets and popcorn and waited for the curtain to rise. We all joined in the fun as the story unfolded on stage. Booing and hissing at the pantomime baddie and cheering as Cinderella found her happily ever after! With lots of laughs, we all hugely enjoyed the performance. Oh yes, we did!!!!

It was a beautiful winter's day, so we layered up and headed to the banks of the River Cam where we hired a punt with our lovely tour guide Andy. All of us hugely enjoyed the peaceful waterside tour of Cambridge from the unique view of the riverside. The prestigious Cambridge colleges were pointed out by Andy, and they looked so very beautiful in the winter sunshine.

It was over to Parker’s Piece green, where a Christmas winter wonderland funfair awaited! Oh, and what fun we had! We reached soaring heights on the Big Wheel, giving us an amazing view of the city, looking magical, all lit up. We then bumped and crashed into each other on the Dodgems and whizzed around on the Waltzer.

Cambridge city centre was full of history. We visited the stunning Kings College, and browsed the famous street market which was suitably Christmassy and festive. We had lunch in a lovely cafe and found a shop selling all things Harry Potter, where we could pose with a life size mechanical wizard.

We were all in a jolly, festive mood and we couldn't resist a photo shoot by the gigantic Christmas tree.

A morning was spent at the Museum of Zoology. Here, we were treated to an amazing, guided tour of the exhibits by Euan, a volunteer. He was a mine of information and could answer any question we threw at him. We learnt so many fascinating facts about the animal kingdom.

It was a nail-biting match down at the bowling alley with plenty of high scores and strikes. At points it was too close to call. After lots of fun, we crowned Chris our bowling champion! Well done to all for being great sportsmen.

An afternoon was spent exploring Bury St. Edmunds. We walked around the ancient abbey gardens and saw the ruins of St Edmonds Abbey, the rose garden and the herb gardens. The smells were delightful. More shops tempted us, and we wandered happily in festive streets, lit brightly with twinkly Christmas lights.

Trip to the local garden centre was a must! It is renowned for its fabulous Christmas displays and decorations, some of which we couldn’t resist buying!

We headed to the nearby leisure complex for an afternoon of fun! We racked up the pool table, picked our lucky cue and were ready to pot some balls. There was lots of laughter on the air hockey game as the puck whizzed around the table and we spent a few of our holiday pennies on the arcade machines. Lianne was very lucky and managed to win over 5000 tickets!
