Oxford- The Harry Potter Tour with Duncan & Rachel

 Oxford- The Harry Potter Tour

We made our spell binding journey to Warner Brothers Studio for our magical Harry Potter tour. As we arrived, we were greeted by a huge model of Norbert the dragon who looked like he was going to breath fire on us. The tour kicked off with a film where some of the original cast told us about how the films were made.

We then explored the Great Hall, the Gryffindor common room and the boy’s bedroom. It all felt so surreal, it was just like being in the film.

Excitedly we stepped on the famous platform, Platform 9& 3/4 where the magnificent Hogwarts Express was waiting for us to climb aboard.

It was then time for a walk down Diagon Alley with its cobble stone paths to check out all the magical shops where Harry and his friends bought all their wizardly wares. Finally, we walked around a huge model of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry and its grounds. It was hard to believe that what you see in the films is really only a model!

A walk through Gringotts bank was a must. We were being watched closely by all the Goblins behind their desks

Not wanting to feel left out we sampled the popular wizards beverage, Butterbeer. It tasted just like butterscotch!

Great fun was had as we had a go at flying on our very own broomstick. We all agreed that we would have loved to have flown around playing Quidditch.

A day was spent in Oxford exploring its architecture and magnificent gothic buildings. Our first stop was the Natural History Museum, home to the huge T Rex skeleton which greets you as you enter the foyer. We spent the morning exploring the vast display cases full of artifacts and information. We were intrigued by so many things from crocodiles, huge turtles and tortoises, birds of prey to insects.

The ‘Meat the Future’, which is the newest exhibition was really intriguing and features Damien Hurst’s famous Cain and Abel 1994 artwork of two calves suspended in formaldehyde solution

An informative morning was spent exploring The Bucks Museum in the historic town of Aylesbury which is rich in heritage of art ,history, archaeology, wildlife and geology. There is also a section dedicated to the famous author, Roald Dahl.
