Warners- Alvaston Hall with Duncan & Tracey

 Warners- Alvaston Hall

A fabulous day was spent at one of the UK's best wildlife parks, Cheshire Zoo. We arrived just in time to see the camels being fed. They were certainly hungry! There were so many other amazing animals for us to see and we got up close….. but not too close to the lions, tigers, orang-utans and hundreds of other exotic and endangered birds and mammals.

We boarded a wonderful boat ride which took us on a journey round the zoo and we were able to see some of the enclosures from a different perspective. This was very relaxing, and we felt like we were cruising down the mighty amazon river!

We then headed into the butterfly house which was like walking into a tropical paradise as we were surrounded by beautiful exotic plants and flowers. Swooping all around us in all directions were incredible looking butterflies of all kinds of electrifying colours.

Every night, we looked forward to the amazing live entertainment. We sung and danced away to the disco tunes, showing off our groovy moves.

A brilliant morning was spent at a formerly top secret location, Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker. This 35,000 square ft underground bunker would have been the centre of regional government should a nuclear war have broken out during the Cold War. On arrival we were given a special mission to seek out and count how many Soviet spy mice had infiltrated the facility. We moved from room to room checking out all of the special communications equipment, radiation proof suits and cold war propaganda seeking out and counting spy mice along the way. We had so much fun and a there was a lot of friendly competition trying to find all of the mice and record them in our special books we had been given.

We were all thrilled to receive a certificate to congratulate us on completing our secret mission.

The Blue Planet Aquarium was fascinating. We wandered round the aquarium checking out all of the weird and wonderful fish and sea creatures! The brave amongst us walked through the huge glass tunnel as sharks and stingray swam right over our heads.

It wasn't just underwater critters that we discovered though as we also came face to face with caiman crocodiles and some much friendlier looking tortoises. Outside we had a walk round pelican cove and as the name suggests we met some enormous pelicans!

We found an amazing little museum called 'sick to death' in Chester town centre. The theme of the museum was about century old medicine, and we learned lots about some of the bizarre treatments that were used to treat all kinds of ailments during the Roman times right up until the plague! We even had a chance to explore the human anatomy thanks to Colin the pretend corpse.

The rest of the afternoon was spent admiring the grandeur of Chester's beautiful 1000 year old cathedral. We enjoyed exploring the architecture and the vast space inside. It was a great time to visit as there is currently an art exhibition inside with lots of amazing sculptures and paintings. There was even a scale model of the cathedral itself built entirely out of Lego!
