The Wonders of The Isle of Wight with Duncan, Tracey & Isobel

The Wonders of The Isle of Wight

The sun was shining as we boarded the minibus heading to the iconic tourist attraction The Needles. We stood on the viewing tower and admired the beautiful sight of the white chalk jutting out of the crystal blue water.

Our first stop was at the Alum Bay sand shop where we could choose from a variety of glass shaped ornaments to fill up with the different coloured sands that can only be found here on the island. Everyone was thrilled with their masterpieces.

At the Alum Glass Factory, we watched the skilled craftsmen make some beautiful, multi coloured glass ornaments to put in their shop ready for Christmas. It was amazing walking around the shop admiring all their hard work. There were some truly spectacular pieces on display.

We had a  beautiful journey through the picturesque countryside to  Godshill Model Village. The village  has a collection of over 3000 carefully pruned and sculptured conifers and model buildings which represented the villages of Godshill and Shanklin. We saw houses, churches, pubs and hotels and a fabulous miniature railway. There was so much detail in all the models making them all seem so real.

We called into the Chocolate Island shop and were amazed at all the different handmade chocolates which had been made by local chocolatiers.

Kevin wanted to watch the Hovercraft come into land, so we stood and waited for it to arrive. As it approached at great speed he waved to the captain and passengers on board; it was a great sight to see.

We couldn't resist the temptation of the huge variety of flavours at the ice cream parlour. There were so many to choose from!

Every night we were blown away by the incredible live performances put on by the entertainment team. The singing was pitch perfect and the dance routines were perfectly in time. We especially loved some of the hilarious costumes.

Down at the archery shed for some  tuition from our wonderful instructor Bonnie. She showed us the technique and gave us tips on how to hit the target. We all took it in turns and it was soon apparent that we had a few secret Robin Hoods amongst us!

As soon as the live performances had finished we hot footed it onto the dance floor, showing off our groovy moves to all the other holiday makers. It was always the best way to end the night.

An afternoon was spent at Ryde Super Bowl where we split into two groups for a game of bowling. There were some fantastic shots and some super strikes. We crowned Emma our overall champion, with an amazing score of 113!
