Butlins, Fun & Dancing (Minehead) with Darren & Marguerite

Butlins, Fun & Dancing (Minehead)

We love visiting all the wonderful Butlins memorabilia and having our photos taken with the lovable characters.

A fantastic morning was spent at the funfair and we particularly loved the house of illusions. We thought we would make great magicians assistants. The house of mirrors was next on the agenda and we laughed so much when we caught a glimpse of ourselves looking all different shapes and sizes!

We soared up in the sky on the umbrellas, spun around and around on the waltzer, swung high on the swingboats and rode the elegant horses on the carousel.

We tried our luck in the amusement arcades spending all our pennies on the slot machines.

The Redcoats always make us feel so welcome with their huge smiles. They are always more than happy to stop for a photo and we especially love dancing the night away on the dance floor with them.

We always looked forward to the evening entertainment as we were dazzled by fantastic dance routines and incredible voices from the amazing tribute acts. We were always the first once up on the dance floor.....and the last to leave.

We got into the pantomime spirit and watched the classic tale of ‘Sleeping Beauty’. Everyone joined in with the fun and laughter and booed at the evil Maleficent.

Tenpin bowling was next on the agenda and we all were quietly competitive as we tried our best to get some strikes. It was great to see everyone cheering each other on and everyone showed great sportsmanship.

We spent the day in Lynmouth which is known as the ‘walking capital’ of Exmoor. Lynmouth sits in a gorge 700 feet below.

Lynton and these 2 villages are connected by a cliff railway which works 2 cable connected cars by gravity using water tanks. It was a warm, sunny day which made it very pleasurable.

We ambled along the promenade taking in all of the breath-taking scenery, stopping at the memorial hall which commemorates the Lynmouth flood in 1952. Photographs and newspaper reports can be found here as well as a model village of Lynmouth, prior to the flood.
