Channel Islands- Jersey
The main square in St Helier is where we boarded the 'Le Petit' train. The gentle road train took us from St Helier to St Aubin along the beautiful sea front with views of beaches, Elizabeth castle and the waterfront.
St Aubin was a lovely quaint village with small shops, cafes, bars and lots of restaurants to choose from. We found a great pub to enjoy lunch with fantastic views overlooking the harbour.
The hardest decision of the day was what delicious flavour ice cream to pick!
The outdoor pool and jacuzzi was always a great way to end our days out. The water was
lovely and warm and we had lots of fun playing ball games and practising our
swimming. It was also warm enough for the sun worshippers amongst us to catch a
few rays, relaxing on the sunbeds.
The weather couldn't have been better!
The zoo had a
wide range of animals and some endangered species. We took our seats and
intently watched the zoo keeper feed these greedy animal and we listened to
the facts and information. We were lucky enough to see the alpha male gorilla
beat on his chest, what and incredible experience to see and hear that drum
like sound.
Dressed in our best clothes as we dined at The Royal Yacht Club where
you could only go if you were a member. Luckily for us the owner of our hotel
is a member and he very kindly booked us a table. The food was exquisite and the view overlooking the harbour were stunning.
A thought provoking trip to the Jersey War Tunnels and, wow, what a
remarkable place it was to visit. We learnt the true story of life in Jersey during the
German occupation. The hardship, the heartache and the heroism, in
the words of the people who lived through this time. The museum was full
of pictures and exhibits which gave us real sense of the struggle and poverty
that existed.
We found the ‘sand
wizard’, a very talented man who builds and sculpts the most stunning sand
castles.
We visited the Maritime Museum to
discover all about Jersey's
maritime past in this uniquely interactive museum. Set by the historic harbour
of St. Helier, the Maritime Museum is all about seafaring, navigation and the
elements, told through the stories of Jersey people. Through the interactive
exhibits we felt the force of a gale, understood the tides and learnt how to
design and float a ship. We all agreed it was such
a great way to learn and it really engaged us all.
We like to celebrate a birthday, here at JollyDays! At the tops of our voices we sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to our very own Midi and
gave him his present. He was thrilled!
The entertainment room was where we liked to hit the dance floor and show off our great moves to the disco
hits. We were also blown away by an incredible magician. His tricks
and illusions had us captivated as we tried to figure out how he did it.
