Germany & The Moselle River with John, Netty & Wendy

  Germany & the Moselle River

We took a boat trip down the Moselle river. What a lovely way to spend the day, drifting down the river surrounded by beautiful scenery with its gentle hills covered in vineyards.  We got off the boat at Bernkastel-kues and strolled around the cobbled streets of this picturesque town with it’s pretty timbered buildings.

We join in the kubb tournament. This was a fun game where teams throw wooden batons at the opponent’s stumps to try and knock them over. We all had a go and some of us made some amazingly accurate shots while our team mates cheered on enthusiastically!

Our excursion to the beautiful town of Cochem was great. The town sits on the banks of the Moselle overlooked by its towering and richly decorated castle. In the square there was a German band playing traditional music so we danced and clapped along.

At the historic French town of Metz we followed our guide through the cobbled streets and headed for the cathedral which dominates the city skyline. Inside the magnificent building were many spectacular stained glass windows, some dating back as far as the 15th Century.

We visited the Eifelpark at Gondorf, a pleasure park with lots of animals too. We strolled along past many deer, meerkats and wallabies and stopped at an arena to watch and meet the birds of prey. We even got to hold and stroke some of these magnificent birds.

At the resort we enjoyed playing games of bowling and mini golf in the beautiful sunshine. We also had a fantastic time learning to play sjoelbak which consited of sliding wooden discs through holes to score points.

Our evenings were spent watching great entertainment and of course a lot of dancing and singing under the stars!
