Yorkshire Dales, TV Soap Country
We had a fantastic day at Nidderdale Natural History Museum
which had a wonderful collection of exhibits for us to admire. Illustrating the different aspects of life and
work through the ages which included an original Cobblers Shop, General Store,
a Victorian Parlour, Schoolroom and much more! The group thoroughly enjoyed
seeing the Victorian Dolls House on display with all its furnishings.
An exciting adventure to Holmfirth, where the popular tv series, Last of The Summer Wine was filmed. We
hoped on the bus where we met our tour guide Colin, who drove us in his old-fashioned
style bus seeing the magnificent views and visiting some of the places where
the filming took place.
We enjoyed lunch in Sid's Cafe and managed to take some photos with the life size picture of Nora Batty within the cafe.
The sun was shinning, making it a perfect day for our steam train journey
from Pickering to Goathland, the home of the wonderful TV show Heartbeat. The conductor
came around and punched our tickets, dressed in the old traditional uniform and
hat. He told us that Goathland station was
used in the filming of Harry Potter & The Philosophers Stone. Once we had
arrived, we enjoyed a picnic lunch on the green and took some photos with the
Police Car from the actual programme and the iconic Scripps garage.
The beautiful market town of Skipton was our next stop as we headed to the canal for our trip on a narrow boat. The Leeds & Liverpool
Canal is Britain’s longest at 127 miles, and was originally used for
transporting coal, stone and other cargo. We sat back and relaxed, listening to
the comedian Dave Spikey commentate throughout the journey and providing some
funny but interesting facts along the way.
