Austria, Sound of Music Tour with Midi, Netty & Claire

Austria, Sound of Music Tour

We arrived in Austria, the home of the epic story of love and adventure!
Our beautiful hotel in the picturesque village of Dorfgastein.

We wondered into the lovely village, taking in all the amazing sights, before making our way to the cable car that carried visitors high up towards the mountain peaks over 2,200 metres above sea level.
It was some of the groups first time riding a cable car! The views at the summit were magnificent...we certainly were on top of the world!

Today we headed towards Hohe Tauern in a National Park. We marvelled at the largest and most spectacular waterfall in the whole of Europe! Everyone enjoyed getting sprayed by the water whilst having their picture taken!

All aboard the official Sound of Music coach to begin our tour which began in Salzberg! During the coach ride everyone was encouraged to sing along to the soundtrack.
We stopped at locations used when filming and were amazed  to be treading in the actual footsteps of Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, who played Maria and the Captain.

Seeing the magnificent Leopoldskron Palace with its still lake, along with seeing the real gazebo where Leizl and Ralph sang their song I am 16 going on 17!

We boarded a small train to see the stunning Cathedral where the wedding scene in the movie was filmed. Truly spectacular!

Next we visited the Mirabelle Gardens where the song 'Doh, a Deer' was performed by Maria and the children near the fountain.

Today we spent time in 'Zell am See' a lakeside village. We hopped on a boat across the Zell lake where quaint cobbled streets and plentiful gifts shops awaited. The boat ride itself was an adventure and everyone was amazed by the stunning scenery!

We had to treat ourselves to a Austrian pastry, they were delicious!

Today we travelled to Hallstatt, a UNESCO world heritage site. There is a salt mine that dates back to 5000 BC and a funicular railway that carries people up to the Hallstatt High Valley and the Sky Walk viewing platform. We glided to the top on the train up the side of the mountain, it was breath taking!
