Yorkshire Dales, TV Soap Country
We went to the Emmerdale studios for the Emmerdale experience. This was a massive hit with our group and we all loved exploring the set and seeing some of our favourite characters, even if they were only cardboard cut outs!
In Repon we sae the Wakeman
blew his horn every night at 9pm in the four corners Ripon to let people know
that they could sleep peacefully.
At the Wensleydale creamery we were shown how to make butter
and cheese before getting to sample some too! We all found this very
interesting and loved all the hands on activities they had for us to do too.
In Holmfirth,
we visited the place where the TV series Last of the
Sumner Wine was recorded. We enjoyed lunch at Sid’s Cafe which was
featured in the TV show and saw some of the iconic TV characters such as Nora
Batty. We boarded the very old fashioned bus and had a tour of Holmfirth,
listening to its history as we drove up and down the very narrow dale roads.
Our
next place of interest was the village of Goathland which is better known as
the village of Aidensfield where the TV series Heartbeat was filmed. Stopping
at the familiar green, shops and local garage to take some photos.
We went to Aysgarth
Falls. This is the infamous place where Robin Hood and Little John fought. A
popular and outstanding place of beauty, we paddled in the river and stood on
the same rocks where they had the famous fight.
With the mini bus we headed off to Skipton, an historical Yorkshire town well known
for its canals and waterways. A band was in full swing as we arrived and the
waterway barges were all out in a great show of colour.
