! BONJOUR TOUT LE MONDE !
That's what we shouted as we arrived into Calais after our beautifully smooth ferry crossing!
Arriving at our luxurious gite in the late afternoon sun, we unpacked in our lovely spacious rooms and we knew that our adventures had truly begun! Our first evening was kicked off with the first of many traditional French meals - il était délicieux!
We immersed ourselves in the local culture at Campagne Les Boulonnais . We wandered around the vibrant market, looking at all the tempting goods on offer!
We spent a fantastic afternoon in Montreuil where we joined in with the 70 year celebration of the liberation of the town! The whole place was buzzing with activity and we saw bands, soldiers, tanks and people dressed in 1940's costume.
We visited Etaples where we walked around the war graves which made a huge impression on us all.
We had an amazing steam train ride which took us on a scenic journey through the stunning Somme Valley. The scenery was breath taking and we waved as we chug chugged along.
Hardelot Castle was loved by all. We ambled around the pretty grounds by the river and said hello to the friendly ducks!
A visit to the local chocolatier was a must and we watched the entire chocolate making process from start to finish! We even got to sample some - it was mouth wateringly tasty!
Our day at Nausicaa was superb! Being the largest aquarium in Europe, we saw an astonishing array of sea creatures including alligators, crocodiles, sting rays, jellyfish, starfish, sea horses and many brightly coloured fish!
Our holiday was jam packed full of exciting adventures and we can't wait to go back again!
