Attraction of Blackpool with Oli & Isobel

 Attractions of Blackpool

Our first stop on our Blackpool holiday had to be the iconic Blackpool Tower! The tower is one of the most iconic landmarks in England and was opened to the public on May 14th, 1894, inspired by the Eiffel tower in Paris. It stands 518 feet tall and is the symbol of Blackpool’s popularity as a holiday destination since the Victorian era. As we all braved the lift, it began to climb higher and higher and once at the top we were very brave to look at the views across Blackpool and the surrounding areas. As the weather was so sunny we could see for miles across the landscape. Some of us were brave enough to walk across the glass floor known as the Sky Walk and we were amazed to see the promenade, cars and people that looked so small in the distance.

We set off on our way to meet some of our most loved celebrities at Madame Tussauds. On arrival we were met by the starts of Strictly Come Dancing and the iconic glitter ball. We took some photos standing with Craig, Claudia and Tess and could even hold up the paddles to pretend to give scores out. It was a 10 from Len!

Comedy duo Ant & Dec were ready to greet us and luckily for us they didn’t make us do a bushtucker trial.

Next, we met ET, before having to be on our best behaviour as we met the Royal Family.

We all practised out royal wave!

There were so many sporting legends for us to see from Mohammed Ali to Wayne Rooney. The comic stars were a massive hit, and we loved seeing our favourite characters from the Marvel collection such as Spiderman, Thor, Wonderwoman and many others. It was then time to meet some much-loved soap starts. Posing with Jack and Vera and even getting to stand behind the bar in the Rover’s Return was fabulous!

Our final stop was with some pop legends and diva’s such as Freddie Mercury, Brad Pitt, Michael Jackson, Adele and Beyonce.

Everyone was very much looking forward to visiting the world-famous Ballroom. As we made our way through the town we popped in and out of some of the quirky souvenir shops towards the Blackpool Tower where the Ballroom is situated. With smiles on our faces, we entered the stunning building which was so ornately decorated with the we walked in and immediately we were stunned with just how beautiful it was, with the Wurlitzer organ at the heart of it. We sat down and enjoyed a nice drink, whilst watching some of the dancers Waltz their way gracefully around the dance floor. Jamie and Lucy need no persuasion to get up and join in. They did a fantastic job. To our utter joy, Phil Kelsall MBE who had been the Principal Organist since 1977, announced announced a very special Happy Birthday to Bridget as it is her birthday tomorrow.

It was back to Blackpool to see the illuminations and we were not disappointed!! The 6 mile stretch of some of the brightest lights we had ever seen was magnificent. They were on buildings, fairground rides, lamp posts and trams. The tower itself looked even more amazing lit up in a kaleidoscope of colours.

Today we were heading to the famous Blackpool Zoo, and we were all excited to see all the different animals. As we entered, we had timed it perfectly as the giant tortoises were just being fed…and they really were giant! We then moved onto the camels who were shedding their fur and then onto the meerkat enclosure walking through to lemur woods. This was then followed by the incredible Indian Elephants where we learnt so much about their rehoming project. We then took a walk around the dinosaur area which felt so life like. After a refreshing drink we looked at the map and planned our next stop. We discovered the capybara’s, wallabies, meerkats and lots of different types of amazing birds, not forgetting lots of monkeys too.

Sealife Centre where we were able to get up close to some incredible marine life. At the rockpool area we saw starfish, sea horses, crabs and even a lobster! The best bit was walking under the glass tunnel where sharks, stingray and a variety of funny looking fish swam right above us.  We learnt some incredible facts and all about their conservation project. Of course there were some great photo opportunities too!

We decided to make the most of the good weather and take a drive to the beautiful Lake District. We drove through some stunning countryside with spectacular views. After parking up, we hit the souvenir shop before making our way to the pier for our boat trip. Once on board, we made sure we got the best seats to make the most of the scenery. The journey along Lake Windermere, the largest lake in England, was lovely and relaxing and we loved looking at the other boats, cruisers and even kayakers and paddle boarders, who we waved to as we passed them.
