Winter Sun in the Canaries - Lanzarote with Rachel, Darren & Jamie

Winter Sun in the Canaries- Lanzarote

The sun was shining and we couldn't wait to make splash in the fabulous swimming pool.

The hotel was amazing with so many great activities for us to participate in. We had our own mini table tennis tournament and there were some great rallies.

We enjoyed taking in the sea air as we walked along the promenade to the marina where we loved watching the little boats bobbing around on the water.

An exciting day out was had as we did a little island hopping. Once on board our very impressive looking boat we sat back and relaxed as we sailed out of the harbour towards the adjacent island. The sea was crystal clear, and the views of the coastline were spectacular. At our first stop we had to board a smaller boat which then took us over to the smaller island of Lobos.

Our exploration commenced as we soon came across little sandy caves and marvelling at the volcanic rock landscape. It was like something from a sci fi movie.

We ate a lovely picnic and had more time to explore, and we just couldn’t resist to swim in the small cove; we’ve never seen water that looked so turquoise. It was soon time to make our return journey and once back on Fuerteventura we wandered into Corralejo and found the perfect spot for an ice cream before wandering around the quaint streets, browsing the little gift shops.

The sun was shining as we started our journey up into the mountains to our first stop at El Golfo. Here we walked up over to the Sulphur Lake which is a large green lake caused by excessive plankton production. The views were spectacular, and we looked out over what used to be an old fishing village.

It was then back on the bus to our next stop where the brave amongst us enjoyed a camel ride taking us up and over the hills. It did make us laugh as they strode along making us sway from side to side in our seats. What great experience. Next, we made our way up to Timanfaye National Park which is in the south western part of the island.

The knowledgeable tour guides showed us how hot the earth is under our feet by pushing straw down into a hole and to our amazement it caught fire. They then put a bucket of water down a tube that sent up a burst of steam as the heat from the lava is unimaginably hot. We then drove through the lava fields which was such a strange and spooky outlook. A lovely picnic at Mancha Blanca was enjoyed before we travelled back down through the vineyard in La Geria. Here we sampled two types of wine which is produced from the grapes grown on the slopes of the volcanic hills nearby. Some of us brought a bottle of wine to take home as a memento and some more souvenirs.

Our active group enjoyed a game of crazy golf where we all tried our hardest to get that lucky hole in one!

The evening entertainment was fabulous. Every night we were treated to live music, dance routines and a hilarious comedy act. In true JollyDays style we hit the dance floor and showed off our disco moves. We even got to have a go at karaoke!

There were some impressive shots on the pool table and it was great to see such good sportsmanship!

Whilst we weren't relaxing on the sunbed we were joining in the aqua aerobics and the water polo game which was great fun!
