Country Walks in the Peak District with Darren & Marguerite

Country Walks in the Peak District

We had arrived in the heart of the stunning Peak District countryside and we couldn't wait to explore.

4.6 miles of winding roads and uneven paths saw us climb our way up to the top of the valley enjoying the incredible views over the Derwent Valley.

The onsite swimming pool was the perfect way to relax and unwind after a day of walking.

We tackled a steep ascent, climbing through beautiful woodland emerging into the deep grassy gorge of Hall Dale.

The infamous stepping stones across the River Dove where we all took turns to carefully cross without falling in!

As a reward for successfully making it to Ilam we treated ourselves to a delicious ice cream.

A wonderful day was spent at Crich, home to the Tramway Village.

Hearing the rumble of the vintage tram at Terminus Town End we soon set off and enjoyed the scenic route through open countryside with views across the Derwent Valley. It was like stepping back in time as we passed period buildings that had been restored after a tragic fire.

We loved watching the passers by and spotted two gentlemen dressed up in vintage clothing.

We visited the Tram depots which house the heritage collection of working trams plus others which are awaiting restoration.

Next on the agenda was exploring the Woodland Walk and Sculpture Trail. We stretched our legs on a trail that winds its way through native woodland, dotted with sculptures by a resident sculptor, hoping we might get to see him at work in his outdoor studio.

We followed the paths on the hunt for the sculptures which lurk around every corner such as the Giant Wood Ant and the Green Man.

We danced the ‘conga’ around the maze, lead of course by Darren!

Fun was had on the crazy golf course as we all tried hard to get a 'hole in one' .
