Cycling in Holland
We started our first day at Center Parcs by collecting our bikes and
cycled around the park to get used to them before hitting the beautiful Dutch
countryside.
In the wonderful town of Valkenswaard we found out that there were several groups of singers performing around the town squares and streets.
Everyday we eagerly
took our bikes and set off for a new adventure. We cycled through forest, countryside and a national park with views over the lakes and fields. We stopped for ice creams and Dutch apple cake along the way and enjoyed delicious picnic lunches.
Another day we
crossed the border into Belgium where we visited the ancient town of Peer. We
wandered around the cobbled streets taking in the sights of this truly
magnificent town. After some coffee and cake we headed off again. We took the
scenic route back across the border into Holland.
In Borkel we stopped off at a working
windmill and Hank, the miller gave us a guided tour of
the beautiful Dutch windmill. We were able to climb up inside the windmill and it was very interesting to see all the different parts which were being carefully restored.
On our last day we visited a Dutch street market where we sampled various types of Dutch food
such as cheese and fish dishes. We spent the afternoon buying gifts and
souvenirs in the glorious sunshine and of course enjoyed a delicious ice cream.
