Devon Delights
During our holiday we visited many beautiful seaside town where we strolled
around the beautiful cobbled streets. We visited the famous Pannier
Market - packed full with curiosity stalls and arts and crafts. We also visited
the Devon Museum where we were whisked back in time and taken on a tour of
Devon farming, mining and fishing industries through the ages.
In the town of Totnes where we visited the Medieval Market
and the picturesque streets of this delightful place. In Dartmouth we had the most wonderful cream
tea that Devon could possibly offer! The afternoon was spent on a paddle steamer
exploring the river Dart in style.
We went to Exeter – the capital city of Devon.
At the Riverside Centre, we looked the charming little stalls and shops which
were nestled into the brick arches of the old city walls. We then walked into
the city centre and admired the huge Cathedral which towered over us.
We whisked across the Devon countryside in a vintage locomotive, travelling from Okehampton to Meldon Viaduct. We hopped off the train and walked to the spectacular views of the viaduct and waterfalls.
We spent the all day at the Exmoor Zoo. The
whole group were animal lovers and loved watching the monkeys playing in their
huge enclosure. The zoo was set in absolutely stunning surroundings and we were
kept amused with the large array of animals that lived here.
We spent the day at The Widecombe Fair. This event has been famous
for centuries and is held once a year in the beautiful setting of Widecombe in
the moor. We all loved the Sheep shearing competition and cheered all the
shearers. We also loved the various marquee’s full of country produce for us to try were
fantastic. We saw the horse trials and dog trials too. We really enjoyed the Morris dancers who entertained us
in the high street.
At the tropical rainforest we entered huge glass domes housing tropical
plants and trees from around the world. The domes were so big that you actually
get the feeling of being in a jungle environment. We spent the whole day
exploring the different domes which had different climates and plants.
