Dutch Bulb Fields & Amsterdam with Derek & Ase

⚘  Dutch Bulb Fields & Amsterdam  ⚘

As soon as we walked into the amazing Keukenhof park we were amongst incredible gardens full of bloom. We had never seen so many different colours and variety of bulbs from tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and many more.

After many hours enjoying the Keukenhof we drove to Sassenheim, to the hall where the floats for the flower parade were being dressed. It was incredible to see teams of people, decorating some twenty or more floats; covering them in probably hundreds of thousands of flowers.

In Amsterdam we had an amazing time exploring the sights. We were amazed at how many canals there were.  We walked to the Rijksmuseum and The Van Gogh museum which are both magnificent buildings; one in a traditional build and the other much more contemporary.

We also boarded a cruiser for a wonderful trip on the canals which brought a different perspective of Amsterdam!

Another day we set off in the JollyDays minibus and drove off in search of the bulb fields of north Holland. It wasn't long before we started seeing the incredible fields full of all different types and colours. We drove on and headed to Noordostpolder to find the tulip road; a trip through many more tulip fields. It was glorious! We stopped a few times to get up close and to take photos.

We went to Zaanse Schans which has been rebuilt to represent a typical old style Dutch village. It was a lovely day with craft shops showing old trades such as clog making and cheese making with demonstrations of both. We wandered through chocolate shops and inside the windmills to see the herbs and grains being ground down.
