The following morning we had breakfast in the
conservatory with marvellous views all around and got ready for our first
venture of the day. We stayed local and went to the Heritage Centre in New
Mills and took in some of the history of the area. From the centre we walked
out along the river Goyt and then back via the canal. Along the way we spotted
sheep with their lambs, horses and Lamas. Lunch was taken before driving
through the beautiful peaks to start our cross country walk around the Comb
area.
There were gorgeous views and we passed cows and more sheep and horses.
At the end of the walk we had a drink and crisps at the Beehive pub before
going home. Dinner was a home cooked
lasagne with garlic bread and ice cream to follow. It had been a good day and
we finished with a DVD before hitting the hay!
The next day, after breakfast, we drove to Blue
John Cavern and walked across the snowy fields in the wind. Afterwards we drove
to Castleton and walked around the village where we bought some gifts and then
lunched in the very pleasant tea rooms. It was then off to Chatsworth Estate
for a walk along the river Derwent and into the gardens of Chatsworth. It was a
really lovely walk and we all thoroughly enjoyed the gardens. We had tea and
cakes there and then set off for home. It was a fish and chip supper at home,
followed by a game of cards and a little TV before bed.
It was Derek’s birthday on the Thursday and he
opened his cards and presents at breakfast. Then, we set off to Edale where we
first visited the Moorland Centre. Our walk was in the lowland area of Edale
and we crossed the railway as we did our circular walk. As always, we had to
walk through a little snow that was still lying around. After our lunch we
drove to Speedwell and took the underground waterway through the cavern that
had been honed to mine lead. It was very interesting and fun too. Back at the
cottage, we had a cuppa and some birthday cake before our evening walk before
going to a local pub for dinner.
On our last day, after packing, we set off to
Tissington and wandered around the beautiful village and bought some fudge in
the traditional sweet shop before having lunch at a very nice tea room. It was then
time to head home. We had been so lucky with the weather and the walking was perfect.
The scenery is fantastic, it wowed us all!!
