Mid-Summer Delight with Derek & Wendy

Our accommodation was to a very high standard and we enjoyed the extremely friendly holiday resort throughout our holiday. We had a couple of sessions in the swimming pool and Caroline excelled in her swimming, while John H was happy to allow Derek to help him swim on his back. The others paddled and we all enjoyed the Jacuzzi.

Many evenings were spent in the club house watching the entertainment team putting on their shows and we joined in with the singing and often finished the evening with a boogey on the dance floor.

As the weather was so good we managed many picnics and had a few BBQ’s. In the evenings we had a few home prepared dinners and sourced out many a good pub for more splendid dinners. Naturally, cream teas and ice creams were high on the list of things to have.

Days were spent exploring the beautiful scenery of South Devon. On a couple of days we went onto stunning Dartmoor and saw the lovely ponies, cattle and sheep. We went to the largest donkey sanctuary in the world and got up close to the donkeys. One of our day trips included a ride on a steam train followed by a river boat ride up the river Dart and then we got onto an open top bus for the return journey. It was great fun.

On another day we took a boat ride up the Kingsbridge estuary. Several beaches were visited and none were more beautiful than that of Bantham, overlooking Burgh Island. Paignton zoo was a must, especially on one of the few overcast days we had. On one of our day trips we went underground in magnificent Kents Cavern and even met a caveman!

We took the opportunity to visit the races at Newton Abbot as they had a family day. Everyone put a pound into the pot for every race and we drew out two numbers for each race, having a three pound win and a two pound each way bet that won us each a whole two pounds!!
