Winter Sun in the Canaries with Jon & Isobel

  Winter Sun in the Canaries

We all enjoyed spending time at the beach, paddling in the sea and sitting in the lovely sunshine. We took part in fun activities too, especially Boccia (Boules). A fantastic effort by all!

Our first activity of the holiday was Rifle Shooting. It was such fun trying to hit the target. We had to really concentrate! The group managed to get some great scores, well done!

We excitedly boarded the coach for our day trip to the Timanfaya National Park to see the lava fields which were formed during the 18th and 19th Century eruptions. In the centre of the Fire Mountains we watched demonstrations where staff poured water down holes in the ground, only for it to burst back up again in a geyser like spout, a few seconds later. It was truly fascinating to be stood on the dormant volcano. Some of us took the opportunity to have a camel ride. It wasn’t the most comfortable of rides, but what an experience!

Next stop, the Vineyards of La Geria and a chance to sample some of the locally produced Wine.

We all enjoyed a game of mini golf with some of us managing to get a hole in one. We later joined in the Darts competition showing great team spirit and supporting each other. We were joint winners and looked forward to receiving certificates for our great effort and participation.

We relaxed by the pool in the glorious sunshine enjoying a drink and talking to each other.

The entertainment in the evening was fantastic! We saw tribute of Robbie Williams, Queen and even some Opera. The singers were amazing. The group enjoyed dancing the night away!

At the karaoke we manage to show off our voices and raised the roof. The all audience was singing along with us to renditions of Elvis, Abba, Whitney Houston and Will Young.

In the evening we were treated to amazing shows. We particularly enjoyed the traditional Flamenco  and African dancing. Their outfits were beautiful!

In Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote we caught a bus into the city and then got the hop on/off seaside train which took us on a  journey around Arrecife. With our headphones on we learnt about the history of the landmarks and of Lanzarote itself.

Another day we decided to catch a coach to Costa Teguise Market. This huge market had everything on offer and everyone bought gifts and souvenirs to take home. Some treated themselves to Lanzarote T-Shirts with lovely bright colours and logos whilst other went for fridge magnets and key rings.
