Yorkshire Dales, TV Soap Country
Our first stop was the town of Goathland - Aidensfield for the Heartbeat fans - where we saw Scripps garage and the Aidensfield stores. We walked through the village taking in all the sites and stopped at the Aidensfield Arms.
In Skipton we
visited the famous street market to scout for gifts and souvenirs. We then
jumped onto a narrow boat and went for a wonderful cruise
along the Leeds and Liverpool canal. We were taken back in time as we cruised
past the old mills and industrial relics.
We drove across the moors to visit a cheese factory in Wensleydale where
we sampled dozens of different cheeses as well as watching them being made. Later
that afternoon we visited the Brymor ice cream factory and sat in the sun
eating our favourite flavours.
We spend the day at the ITV Yorkshire studios and the set of Emmerdale where we had a private tour around the studios. We went behind the scenes into the wardrobe and make-up departments, and also visited the editing suit where the shows were put together. We went onto the actual set and sat down in The Woolpack and David’s shop, while also visiting the Dingles house.
In Ripon we visited the old workhouse museum and were
transported back in time to an age where poverty stricken peasants were
subjected to the workhouses of England to escape starvation. It was then off to the town of Harrogate for
some sightseeing including a visit to the Valley Gardens.
