Yorkshire Dales, TV Soap Country with Steve & Michaela

Yorkshire Dales, TV Soap Country

We hit the road and headed off to Emerdale country and took a mini bus tour of the places where the shows were filmed. We went into Otley which is known as Hotton in the show and also had lunch at the Woolpack Inn.

In Skipton we wandered around the Waterway Festival at the canal basin. It was full of side stalls and live bands. We especially enjoyed watching the Morris dancers.

We travelled across the moors to Embsay where we boarded a steam train which took us to Bolton Abbey, it was a real journey through time as the train took us through the glorious Yorkshire countryside. Then we drove to Skipton and boarded a longboat which took us along the Leeds and Liverpool canal. It was a fantastic afternoon, loved by all.

In Goathland we visited Scripps garage and wandered through the village. We bought gifts and souvenirs to take home. After lunch we went to Sandsend and spent some time on the seafront followed by a visit to the Ripon cathedral. We were given a guided tour through the Crypt.

Back at the lodge Steve cooked a  BBQ as the weather had been good to us throughout the day.

In Wensleydale we visited the cheese factory where we were given a demonstration on cheese making and a tour through the factory watching it being made. We had lunch at one of the Wensleydale farms before going to the chocolate factory where we were given a demonstration and bought ourselves some to take home.

We visited Knaresborough Castle which is situated at the top of a large cliff. From there we had an amazing view of the River Nidd. After cream tea at the Stumps Cross Caverns, some of us went down into the caverns to explore the impressive formations.
