Norfolk Beaches & Broads with Amazona & Isobel

 Norfolk Beaches & Broads

We wasted no time getting our holiday started as boarded the Southern Comfort Mississippi Paddle Boat for a leisurely cruise on the Broads. The Captain welcomed us with charm and good humour, sharing local knowledge and pointing out sights of interest as we sailed past elegant riverside homes, cosy pubs, and quirky sculptures. Wildlife spotting became a fun group challenge. We saw graceful swans, ducklings paddling in tight formation, and a cheeky heron eyeing up two unsuspecting fishermen’s catches.

A trip to the seaside was a must and we couldn't resist meeting the adorable donkeys Reuben, Trevor, and Herbie who were enjoying a well-earned rest. We stroked them gently before continuing our walk.

Some of the group had a paddle in the sea, and had fun building sandcastles.

It was off to Great Yarmouth for an afternoon of ten-pin bowling at Wellington Pier. We split across two lanes and got competitive straight away. There were strikes, near misses, and lots of laughs. It was a nail-biting finish, with Steve clinching victory thanks to a dramatic final strike

What a great little find! We explored  the RAF Air Defence Radar Museum in Neatishead. Housed in a Cold War bunker, the museum offered a fascinating look at the evolution of radar from its early WWII days to modern defence systems. We sat in a fighter jet cockpit for our very own "Top Gun" moment, tried (and failed) to master Morse code, and reminisced over wartime brands in the rationing exhibit. The volunteer staff, many of whom were ex-servicemen, brought the stories to life with their personal insights

It was all aboard at Dereham Station for a nostalgic steam train journey to Wymondham Abbey Station. We arrived early, giving us time to enjoy coffee and cake in the charming station tearoom and browse the gift shop for souvenirs. The beautifully restored heritage carriages made for a comfortable and atmospheric journey. The 22-mile round trip took us through idyllic Norfolk countryside, and on arrival, we were treated to views of the imposing Wymondham Abbey. We wandered into town via cobbled lanes and explored the unique shops before

It was game on down at the pool tables where there were great shots all round.

An ice cream treat is always a must on one of our holidays.

We felt like royalty as we trotted down the seafront on our horse and carriage ride. It was a lovely touch of seaside nostalgia.

Oh what a night at  Yarmouth Stadium for a thrilling evening of greyhound racing. Our host Beth guided us to our table, and soon we were studying the race card and placing bets. The energy was infectious as we cheered on our chosen dogs  and some of us walked away with winnings!

We played pool and arcade games before Luke took on the adrenaline-pumping Slingshot ride. We watched with a mix of awe and amusement as he was launched skywards, returning with a huge grin.

Another must do was the Hippodrome Circus in Great Yarmouth for the dazzling show Around the World. Hosted by the hilarious Jack Jay and Johnny Mac, the show featured jaw-dropping acts from aerialists and jugglers to motorbike stunt riders in the Globe of Death. The show ended with the venue’s famous Water Spectacular, where the stage transformed into a swimming pool for a synchronised swimming finale. It was truly magical.
