 France; Coast & Country

The JollyDays holiday to France was a wonderful week filled with discovery, laughter, and shared experiences from start to finish. Mornings were a highlight, often beginning with fresh pastries collected from the local market, shared breakfasts, and plans made around the table. Visits to traditional French markets allowed everyone to browse colourful stalls packed with local produce,

Several memorable outings added variety and excitement to the week. A trip to the coast brought sunshine, sea air, café stops, and time to relax on the beach at Le Touquet, while another day offered a nostalgic journey aboard the Chemin de Fer de la Baie de Somme steam railway. Waving from the vintage carriages and taking in sweeping views of marshland, meadows, and grazing animals was a truly special experience, rounded off with time exploring the marina and watching the steam engine up close.

Creativity and culture also played a big part in the holiday. A relaxing morning at the gîtes was followed by a unique art session with local artist Dominique, who guided the group through painting still-life scenes. With cake, juice, and plenty of encouragement, everyone produced a beautiful piece of artwork to take home—a lasting reminder of the day and the shared creativity.
Later in the week, a visit to Nausicaá aquarium in Boulogne-sur-Mer amazed the group, from glowing jellyfish and colourful fish to the dramatic sight of sharks and rays gliding past the huge glass viewing windows.

Evenings were just as special as the days. The group enjoyed meals at local village restaurants, tackling French menus together, sharing laughs, and savouring delicious food. Back at the gîtes, nights were filled with music, dancing, films, and long conversations.
