 Attractions of Blackpool

Oh we do like to besides the seaside- especially when the sun is shinning!

Our first stop had to be the iconic Blackpool tower. We headed all the way up to the top where the brave amongst us stepped onto the glass platform which gave you views all the way down to the pavement. Everything looked so small from up above!

It was time to get up close and personal with some of our most loved celebs at the infamous Madame Tussauds. We couldn't believe how life like they all looked. It was a '10 from Len' as we showed off our best Strictly Come Dancing moves.

Bravely we entered the Jungle to be greeted by the comedy duo Ant & Dec alongside the legend that is Sir David Attenborough.

From sporting stars.....

.....to superhero's.

There were characters from some of our favourite soaps and we loved being able to go behind the bar at the Rovers Return.

Everyone practised their best royal wave and curtsey before meeting Her Majesty the Queen.

No trip to Blackpool would be complete without stepping onto the iconic Tower Ballroom dancefloor. It felt like stepping into another era. With its gilded balconies, grand chandeliers, and polished parquet floor, the space exuded timeless elegance. As the mighty Wurlitzer organ began to play, couples took to the dance floor. Some of us twirled to the music with graceful (or at least enthusiastic!) moves, while others sipped tea at beautifully set tables.

We felt like royalty as we took our seats in the princess horse and carriage and rode up and down the promenade waving at passers by.

We boarded the JollyDays bus for a scenic drive up to the breathtaking Lake Windermere. Our pleasure boat was waiting for us and we soon found seats both inside and out, eager for the journey ahead. The cruise was not only relaxing but also informative. A friendly guide narrated interesting facts about the lake’s history, the wildlife, and the stately homes that lined the shore. We listened intently as we floated past wooded islands and peaceful coves, the gentle lapping of water creating a calm and soothing backdrop. Once ashore, we made our way to the nearby heritage railway station which had been beautifully restored. We climbed aboard the train on the Haverthwaite Line and found seats beside the large windows. The steam engine let out a soft whistle, and we were off on a slow and peaceful ride through meadows and woodland.

No holiday would be complete without an ice cream!

We decided to keep the fun going with a lively round of crazy golf—complete with friendly competition and plenty of giggles.

Spirits were high as we made our way to our first destination: the Sea Life Aquarium in Blackpool.  Colourful tanks lined the walls, teeming with sea creatures of all shapes and sizes—graceful rays glided through the water, while curious eels slithered through coral tunnels. We paused often to marvel at the hypnotic movement of jellyfish, glowing gently in neon lights. The highlight for many of us was the underwater tunnel. We walked slowly beneath a glass dome as sharks, sea turtles, and schools of fish swam silently above and around us—it truly felt like we were walking on the ocean floor. Sat in front of a huge tank housing graceful sharks and two majestic green sea turtles, we listened intently as the guide explained the challenges facing ocean habitats and how Sea Life contributes to marine conservation.

It was onto our next stop: Blackpool Zoo. As we arrived, it felt like the animals were putting on a show just for us. The monkey enclosure was a particular favourite with tiny squirrel monkeys zipped about, chattering and swinging, while a couple of cheeky baboons lounged in the sun. We admired the giraffes, who moved with a calm, gentle elegance, and watched the lions doze in a golden patch of sunlight, their powerful forms stretched out and relaxed. We made our way to the amphitheatre to catch the sea lion show. The trainers introduced each animal and demonstrated their intelligence and agility with a series of fun and impressive tricks, clapping, balancing balls, and even waving to the audience. It was clear the sea lions loved the attention, and their playful personalities had us all smiling. Our final stop was perhaps the most memorable Blackpool Zoo’s elephants. Towering and majestic, they moved with surprising grace. One of them playfully splashed water over its back, drawing laughs from the group.
