Cycling in Holland with Derek & Wendy

As we watched the white cliffs of dover fade from our sight, we felt the full excitement of our holiday kick in!  We reached our beautiful Center Parcs resort by early evening and enjoyed a mouth-wateringly good Italian meal under the huge Dome surrounded by tropical trees and exotic birds and animals.  We unpacked in our gorgeous, spacious lodges and settled in in no time!

On most days we woke to blue skies and sunshine and started off our days with a hearty home cooked breakfast.  We cycled along the safe cycle paths to the nearby town of Valkenswaard where we had fun cycling through the refreshing fountains to cool off!  We cycled leisurely to Westerhoven, through to Bergeiik, where we took a stroll through a lively market.

We cycled to the village of Borkel, stopping at the delightful windmill. We had a fascinating tour of the working mill, climbing up 4 sets of steps to reach the top!  Our guide was extremely friendly and made us laugh.  We cycled through many pretty villages during our week, cycling through lovely forests and countryside on designated cycle paths.
We biked to the monastery and brewery at Achelse Kluis where we lunched in a delightful little courtyard, before meeting a local artist and viewing an exhibition of his wonderful paintings.

We did enjoy a more relaxed day, with everyone enjoying the Aqua Zone.  We zoomed down waterslides, rode the rapids, floated around the lazy river and had great fun jumping the waves! We even saw real sharks but luckily not in our pool!

We had a delicious evening meal at a nearby Dutch Pancake House.  They served us huge, traditional pancakes which left us wanting more - they had every flavour going! The evening entertainment was superb and we listened to some wonderful singers each night.  It was a truly memorable holiday.
