Royal Norfolk Show 2010

What a brilliant time we all had. The sun shone throughout our stay in Norfolk and the RNS was superb. The accommodation was fantastic and we managed to enjoy all our meals, including a cooked breakfast on our patio overlooking the lakes.

Our first night out was spent in a lovely country pub where we enjoyed a really nice meal with a drink.

Tuesday; we had a lovely drive on the north coast where we took in Brancaster Straithe and then onto Hunstanton for a walk and an ice cream. In the evening we took a trip into the beautiful city of Norwich and ended up in a very authentic Italian restaurant, preceded by a relaxing drink in a very nice pub on the river.

Wednesday; the first day of the show and we had our game plan sorted. Firstly it was to the outside horse showing rings where you could sit for ages watching these beautiful creatures showing off in all their splendor. The heavy horses were splendid too in all their finery and this was certainly a favourite for Tanya. From here we went on to see the cattle, sheep, pigs and goats, to name but a few animals! All this was taken in our stride, and if a rest was needed, which it was, there was always a bench, chair or a bale of hay on hand to rest our weary legs. Next came the flower displays which of course were beautiful with such a great variety on show. Sweet peas seemed to be the flavour of the day with Doreen, although she would have preferred pansies. Roses were in abundance and I felt like a thorn between several roses... Art was something that interested Tanya and Doreen, where they browsed for a while and probably wondered why they can't make our art themed trip next week in France. This ended the day nicely where we proceeded home for a rest with some good homemade cooking to be eaten on our patio watching the sun set.

Thursday; day two at the show… We took ourselves through the woodland craft area where there were all sorts of crafts from bow making, wood turning and furniture making. We stopped for a while to watch, perhaps the last person, a lady make corn dollies. This is something that is many centuries old. There was even a coracle maker on site! Tanya took a great interest in conservation and spent a good while in conversation with a supporter who was very happy to offer his knowledge. After our usual picnic sitting on some straw bales we took off for the gun dog and agility dog trials. This was definitely something that interested all of us, but not more than Nicki and Jackie. More relaxation was had when we listened to the jazz band in the bandstand area and also watched as the armed forces band marched past along with the Royal British Legion. Ice creams were needed at this stage of the day, yet again!

WARNING… kids, do not practice this at home… do not let your ice cream drip all over your hands and down your clothes as Pat does… it is not big and it is not clever!! Wow, does it ever end? Next onto the main arena for the closing ceremonies where we watched in awe, the brilliant motor bike stunt riders and then the RAF free fall parachutists. They were all truly amazing! Then off home for another restful evening on the patio with a nicely prepared meal and a drink. After a reasonable period Nicki was up for a relaxing time in the hot tub… that made three of us!!!

Friday; a sad farewell was said and off on our trip home. But it doesn't stop there… we never go straight home, so we took in a coastal trip of Suffolk, visiting Dunwich Heath for a cliff top picnic and then off to Aldeburgh for a shopping spree and of course, another ice cream.

All in all it was another splendid supported holiday which was enjoyed by all our great clients and of course the JollyDays team. If this wets your appetite for the County Shows, then there are still places left on our supported holiday to the New Forest and Hampshire County Show! Hurry, it will not last!!!
