On our exciting journey to the Isle of
Wight, we stopped at a lovely little pub in Brokenhurst for a spot of lunch. After a very calm trip on the ferry, we
arrived on the beautiful island, where we eagerly unpacked and organised
ourselves for the fun and games of the party atmosphere that we expected on our
festive break!
Throughout the holiday we played our
part in the fun and games, participating in some festive quizzes and games such
as reindeer races, brussel sprout bobbing and a version of boules. We even took
our chances at bingo... it was all great fun!
Other entertainment included comedians,
an “Abba” tribute group, an ‘Elvis’ tribute singer, a lunchtime “Motown” session
with a fantastic voice and a pantomime - “Jack & The Beanstalk”. As usual
we booed, hissed and cheered along with everybody else, thoroughly enjoying the
interaction! We managed to snap some good photo’s with the cast, too!
Some folk took the opportunity to take
lovely, leisurely walks along the coast just in front of our resort and take in
the fresh air and beautiful scenery. Others embraced the indoor life and took
to salsa and line dancing! We were
entertained with some beautiful singing by a male voice choir on Christmas Eve –
some of us even bought a CD and had them signed!
Before we knew it, the New Year was
fast approaching and we took advantage of the beautiful indoor swimming pool
and got in a little bit of exercise, helping to make a gap for more delicious
festive food throughout our holiday!
Some of the group visited The Needles
and braved the strong winds before filling shapes with coloured sands from the local
beaches. It is always a great experience to watch the glass blowing
demonstration, as it is wonderful to see the interesting skills displayed.
On one of the slightly wetter and
windier days, some of us had a good old game of ten pin bowling! Good use was made of the games room, where
some of us played pool, snooker and table tennis.
The New Years Eve party was absolutely
fantastic! The atmosphere was at its best and we really enjoyed the evening. We
had dressed up in our best clothes and joined in with all the singing and
dancing whilst wearing our party hats and waving our flags! When the time came,
we were all on the dance floor singing to “Auld Langsyne” and we all saw the
New Year in together! It was a fabulous party night and the balloons dropped
from the ceiling. It was very late by
the time we had finished dancing and celebrating!
New Years day allowed us to enjoy some fresh
air. Some went off for a tour around the island and a nice walk along the front
at Ventnor, whilst others embarked a steam train and had a picturesque ride! Before we knew it, it was time to wish everybody a Happy New Year and head back home.
What a Jolly Holiday!
