Norfolk Broads with Steve & Jen

The journey to our bungalow on the Broads was only interrupted by lunch at a country pub near Thetford, where we stopped to all get to know each other. It is a fantastic place where we stay, as it is so convenient for the many activities that we get involved in during the week - we only have to stroll to the bottom of the garden to get access to the many different boats that we use.

As always, we were helped throughout the week by the friendly qualified instructors. Although the weather wasn’t great, we didn’t let this bother us as we still got out sailing, canoeing and cruising. We saw a variety of flora and fauna - swans, mallard, geese, great crested grebe and coots to mention but a few.

Other highlights included taking the steam train from Holt to Sherringham, with the lovely sounds of the whistle and the smoke billowing from the funnel. We took outings to Wroxham and Great Yarmouth – celebrating the Diamond Jubilee everywhere we went! Especially in Great Yarmouth, where the fireworks were fantastic, and we were very close to where the beacon was lit!

One evening we went to watch greyhound racing, with us all having a small wager. There were even a couple of winners amongst us! To celebrate Jen’s birthday we took a day out on the cruiser visiting the Ranworth Wildlife Trust. It was great fun as we all had a go at steering it. We also enjoyed a game of 10-pin bowling, which Thomas won. All this in just one week!
