Ski Austria - Novice & Intermediate with Derek, Faye & Nina

Ski Austria - Novice & Intermediate

The drive through snow-covered mountains brought us to our favourite hotel, where we were warmly welcomed. Wasting no time, the group collected their skis and headed straight to the slopes for our first afternoon of skiing. Andy quickly reunited with instructor Adrian and showed that his skills hadn’t faded, confidently practising turns and drills before skiing down the Rußbach run. Christine impressed instructor Martina with her natural ability, quickly progressing from snowplough turns to parallel skiing. Meanwhile Matthew joined the main group and skied confidently across the mountain, even tackling sections on one leg.

Fresh snowfall created perfect conditions. After a generous buffet breakfast, the group spent a full day skiing. Andy successfully completed the run to the village of Gosau through the forested slopes, achieving something he had been determined to do. Christine continued to build confidence on longer runs and even experienced a unique ride back on a skidoo when her legs tired. Matthew confidently explored the slopes, including a challenging black run. That evening, the group travelled to Gosau to watch a spectacular night ski show, where instructors performed synchronised skiing, stunts, and a dramatic torchlit descent, finishing with fireworks lighting up the night sky.

By Wednesday, everyone’s progress was clear. Andy tackled the red run and completed the three-mile descent into Rußbach twice, showing impressive improvement in his parallel turns. Christine’s technique became more natural as her confidence grew, while Matthew sped down the slopes “like a rocket” during his lesson through the forest.

Under bright sunshine the group enjoyed their final full day on the slopes. Matthew explored new runs with instructor Stephan, Andy continued refining his technique, and Christine demonstrated just how far she had come during the week. The group met for lunch at Go-Gosau to enjoy a traditional Austrian fondue before returning for their final runs. For the last descent, the group formed a fun “ski train,” laughing all the way down the mountain. That evening they celebrated a fantastic week with a final dinner, where Faye presented everyone with certificates and medals recognising their achievements.

After a relaxed breakfast, we enjoyed a special treat before leaving a scenic horse-and-carriage ride through the alpine landscape, pulled by horses Gino and Finn. Surrounded by wooden chalets and mountain views.
