France; Cost & Country
Oh we do like to be besides the seaside and today really was a brilliant day for it! We set off to Berck Plage, where the International Kite Festival was in full swing.
The sky was alive with movement—giant divers, dolphins, superheroes, and
octopuses danced above us in a kaleidoscope of colour. We strolled the
promenade, soaking in the festive atmosphere.
It was up and out as we were excited for a nostalgic journey aboard the Chemin de Fer de la Baie de
Somme, a historic steam train ride. After a scenic drive to Le Crotoy, we
enjoyed coffee served in a charming old railway carriage before boarding the
train. As the steam engine puffed to life, we set off toward St. Valery Port,
passing serene marshlands and charming villages. St. Valery Port, once a
bustling fishing hub, charmed us with its cobbled streets and vibrant Sunday
market. We picked up unique souvenirs and sampled our first ever French
crêpes—soft, warm, and delicious.
How lucky were we having our vey own chocolate shop in the village?! The heavenly scent of cocoa hit us the moment we stepped inside. We learned about the entire chocolate-making process—from bean to bar—and watched skilled chocolatiers at work. Tasting the samples and choosing souvenirs was a sweet treat for all.

A morning was spent at Boulogne-sur-Mer and the extraordinary Nausicaá Sea Life
Centre—Europe’s largest aquarium. It was a truly awe-inspiring experience,
blending fun with education as we explored the deep wonders of marine life.
Mesmerizing jellyfish, playful penguins, elegant rays, and majestic sharks left
us wide-eyed. A powerful 3D film about ocean conservation moved many of us
deeply.
