Wales - Castles, Coast & Steam Trains with John & Candy

Wales - Castles, Coast & Steam Trains

We walked to Oystermouth Castle which sits majestically on the hill in Mumbles with stunning views overlooking Swansea Bay. There we listened to a music show and enjoyed a local-made ice-cream called a Joey.

We travelled back in time on the Gwili to Dan-y-Coed steam railway. We got aboard “The Welsh Guardsman”, sat back and relaxed. Everyone was fascinated by the old, beautiful trains and how people used to travel through the Welsh countryside.

After our train journey, we stopped for lunch in a converted train carriage before finding Christine in her pottery workshop. What an amazing collection of colourful, artistic items.

In the glorious sunshine we visited Manorbier, a magnificent castle standing proud near the Welsh coast line. This is the same castle shown in the film, Narnia. We viewed the castle’s towers, crypt, chapel and dungeon. We went down a ‘secret’ smugglers tunnel towards the beach, where we enjoyed a drink and a stroll along the beach.

In Kidwelly we all loved visiting the magnificent Castle with its fascinating history. On top of the tower we could see stunning views of the River Gwendraeth and the pretty town of Kidwelly.

Our evenings were spent in a number of pubs and restaurants where we were always warmly welcomed.
