Cycling in Holland with Derek & Wendy

    Cycling in Holland

All very excited we went to the bike shop and hired our bikes for the week. We cycled around Centre Parcs to make sure we were all used to our bikes and off we went! During our cycling we stopped at a lovely village called Westerhoven, we enjoyed a cool drink on the terrace before we headed back to our accommodation for a BBQ night.

That day we did a ride around the lanes and along cycle paths and through forestry areas. We stopped in Borkel and looked at the windmill and then cycled through Schaft and stopped at Achelse Kluis (monastery) to have a drink and look around an art gallery.

We cycled to Borkel to visit the working windmill. We were given a tour of the mill and helped turn the sails to catch the wind. It was fascinating!

Back on the saddle we cycled through forestry, very minor roads and along cycle paths passing fields of potatoes, sweet-corn and asparagus. We crossed into Belgium and found a beautiful spot by the river for our picnic. After lunch we rode on to the main canal and cycled until we found a lovely bar overlooking the marina and had a delicious ice cream! Yummy!

During our staying we had a great time playing games of ten pin bowling and outside in the glorious sunshine mini golf, everyone made great scores!
