Learn to Ski in Austria with Derek & Wendy

Our short flight and transfer to our beautiful destination of Russbach went very smoothly.  We checked into our charming hotel and dressed appropriately for our first afternoon of skiing. Lunch was taken at the foot of the number 1 run!   We hired our skis, boots and poles and wasting no time, headed for the slopes to meet our ski instructor.

The guys went up and down the nursery slopes being helped and assessed as to their ability.  After a couple of hours we had enjoyed the lessons and met with friends for our first taste of Austrian après-ski. It was then back to the hotel for a shower and a change for a delicious four course dinner!

Our ski tutor Adrian was extremely helpful throughout our holiday, teaching us how to do things properly - It was great fun! On our second afternoon, for lunch we decided to get onto the “gondola”. This was a fantastic ride with wonderful views all around us. It took us up to a superb restaurant where we met our friends and had a leisurely lunch.

We skied after lunch before going down on the “gondola” and into the Umbrella bar for a drink before getting refreshed and enjoying another superb dinner at our hotel. We then went next door to the local pub where we discussed our day and played a good game of skittles!

On our third day, Joe and Derek went for a stroll and looked at the piste bashers and surrounding beauty while Peter had an afternoon lesson which was a little more strenuous. I’m sure he enjoyed the drink at the end of it!

Another morning of lessons with Adrian helped hone our skills. It came to an end and we thanked him for having been a wonderful coach and had our photograph taken with him. We lunched at the bottom of the slope as in the afternoon we were going on a snow walk with a guide. It was quiet when off the piste and a very enjoyable new experience. The views were magnificent!

On our final morning we went for a long walk around our village before lunch at the bottom of the slope. It had been a great holiday, superb weather and excellent company.
