Yorkshire Dales, TV Soap Country with Duncan & Tracey

 Yorkshire Dales, TV Soap Country

We couldn't wait to explore the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and visit the villages where some of our TV shows are filmed.

With some spectacular views we made our way to Embsay & Bolton railway for a nostalgic steam train ride.  It was like stepping back in time as we boarded the old train and set off through the luscious green hills. It was were like something you would see on a postcard.

We were even lucky enough to meet the station master.

With smiles on our faces, we boarded the Little Ollie, a charming canal boat which took us on a 30-minute cruise along the Leeds and Liverpool canal. This was so much fun and we all felt very important as everyone we passed smiled and waved at us!

We visited one of the biggest tourist hotspots in the Dales; the Woolpack Pub in Esholt. This is the original filming location for the village pub in the hit TV soap Emmerdale. It was an amazing feeling to be sat outside this famous pub, enjoying the glorious sunshine and soaking up the atmosphere. It felt like we were actually on set.

The soap fanatics amongst couldn't believe that we were actually visiting the fictional TV village of Aidensfield in ITV’s Heartbeat (Goathland). It was amazing to see all the iconic buildings that we recognised from the show including The Aidensfield Arms and Scripps Garage. Next, we walked down to Goathland Station to visit the location where they filmed a scene from Harry Potter & The Philosophers Stone. It was here on the platform where they filmed the Hogwarts Express drop the young Wizard’s and Witches off for their first day at the Wizarding School. It all felt so real, and we loved pretending to be Harry and Hermione!

How lucky were we having our own luxurious hot tub to relax in after our days out!

A wonderful day was spent exploring the seaside town of Scarborough. We stopped at Peasholm Park and had great fun exploring the trails around the park, meeting some very friendly wildlife along the way! We jumped on one of the oldest miniature railways in the country and enjoyed  a ride along the coastal track.

We loved being by the sea and we spent the afternoon admiring the boats in the marina. Everyone enjoyed walking to the end of the pier reaching the huge light house. Next, we went back into town for a bit of retail therapy!

Another day and another TV set to explore.  We made our way to Holmfirth to see more filming locations of the much loved BBC comedy series Last Of The Summer Wine. Colin was waiting for us with his tour bus, and we were soon on board. He took us for a tour around Holmfirth and the surrounding areas. He was so knowledgeable, pointing out all of the locations used in the show as well as telling us which episode was filmed where.

The bus stopped just outside Sid's Café; probably the most used and best known location from the comedy show. We visited the infamous Nora Batty's house; it was amazing to be stood right there and it bought back so many memories of the hilarious exchanges between Nora and Compo, who lived in the basement flat directly below.

Visiting Yorkshire Wildlife Park was a must!  We made our way through acres and acres of beautifully landscaped park with animal exhibits from all four corners of the globe! We had animal encounters with everything from lions and tigers to some very friendly lemurs who were kind enough to pose with us for a few selfies!
