Norfolk Broads with Wendy & Adrian

We began our week by meeting for lunch at a lovely country pub in Suffolk, which gave us a chance to get to know each other before heading to The Norfolk Broads.

With a short stroll from our spacious bungalow to the bottom of the garden we have access to the Broads. Here we can use the many different boats available to us, being helped all the way by the qualified instructors based at our accommodation.

We made the most of the sunshine with a relaxing cruise on the water. Everyone had a go at steering and we were able to see an amazing amount of wildlife, in particular the many different species of wildfowl. We were even lucky enough to see two otters playing in the water.

We learned to sail, which for many of us was an exciting new experience. We all got a chance to do the steering and pulling the sail ropes and managed to pick up quite a bit of speed across the Broad. Feeling more confident on the water, we also had a go at canoeing, which we all enjoyed.

During the week we ate out at various country pubs for dinner, and for lunch when we stopped off during our day-long cruise. Adrian showed off his BBQ skills as well!

As the sun was shining we travelled to the seaside on the steam train from Holt to Sheringham. We had a gentle stroll along the Prom, eating ice cream of course, and later had a fish and chip lunch. There was just time to do some souvenir shopping before catching the steam train back.

We also found time to go to the greyhound races at Great Yarmouth where most of us won on at least one race. And we went ten-pin bowling, where the girls came out victorious.
