New Forest & Hampshire County Show with Adrian & Mel

We arrived at our luxurious lodges late Saturday afternoon. After getting used to our surroundings we took a short stroll in the evening sunshine to the clubhouse for our evening meal.

On our first full day in the New Forest we visited a heavy horse centre where we were able to meet and make friends with many horses and other animals. We went on a horse and cart ride around the farm and Billy even got to take the reins. After a very nice lunch we enjoyed an ice cream and drove a tractor around a dirt track. In the evening we had a beautifully cooked BBQ before heading off to the club house for the evening entertainment.

Our next day saw us heading for the seaside town of Bournemouth to soak up some sun and walk along the front where we enjoyed our second ice cream of the week. We even went onto the beach.

Tuesday was our first of two visits to the New Forest and Hampshire County Show. There was so much to see including dog agility, horse and buggy competitions and steam engines. We also sat for a while to watch a master potter making some pots on a potter’s wheel.

On our second day at the show we watched a pony dressage display and some huntsmen with their hounds. We watched blacksmiths plying their trade and apples being pressed by a steam powered press. There were many traction engines all doing different jobs. That evening we found probably the best fish and chip restaurant in the New Forest to have our evening meal.

On our last full day together we decided to visit Beaulieu a fine country house and home to the National Motor Museum. We saw some really old cars including many that were featured in the James Bond movies. We walked through the beautiful grounds to the house where once inside we found people dressed in Victorian costume singing and working as guides. On our last evening together we once again headed for the club house where we played a game of bowling, Derek being the winner even beating Mel and Adrian.
