French Countryside with Colin & Jen

We set out to France in beautiful weather, catching the ferry at Dover and crossing to Calais, before driving south to our base for the week.

Our accommodation, a lovely French Gite, is only about an hour’s drive from Calais and we soon found ourselves settling in and getting ready to head back out to Montreuil for dinner.

The weather was excellent all week which made our trips out even more enjoyable. We had day trips to Stella Plage, a seaside resort where we watched an amazing kite flying competition, to Audresselles to enjoy the town’s crab festival, to Saint Valery to catch the steam train ride through the Sommes and into Boulogne-sur-Mer to visit the Nausicaa Aquarium, the largest aquarium in Europe, with over 35,000 animals.

We also found time to visit Le Touquet, Hardelot and a small chocolate factory which everyone enjoyed.

During the week we ate out at a number of French restaurants, one night visiting the ‘Old City’ of Boulogne and on a couple of occasions we decided to BBQ at our accommodation.

With the weather being so nice we were able to have fun playing boules in the garden and later in the games room we finished the night off with a game of pool and sing along to the many songs played on the juke box.
Our week was finished off, as with all our trips across the channel, by having a silver service lunch at the “Langham’s Brasserie” on the ferry.
